PI Power Boat Race - Sept 2007

ANOTHER WORLD CHAMPION JOINS THE MURRY FOUNDATION

The pairing of Craig D. Wilson, throttles and James Sheppard (driver) proved almost unbeatable taking nine 1st place podium positions and three 2nd places out of a possible 13, giving Team Fountain Worldwide/King of Shaves the undisputed title of World Champions in the hotly contested and prestigious P1 series (run in 6 European countries)

The P1 Series is without doubt one of the most exciting motoring events of the year. Televised to over 100million homes worldwide, Powerboat P1 combines spectacular action, with the glamour of international motorsport. Racing takes place close to the shoreline in some of Europe’s finest holiday seaside destinations attracting large crowds. Last season the carnival atmosphere of a Powerboat P1 race weekend was enjoyed by over 280,000 people. Its exhilarating, dramatic, action-packed and one of the fastest growing motorsports in Europe. In the finest of racing traditions, sleek powerful machines, in the hands of skilled pilots, compete for the challenge and the glory. Echoing the great history of races such as Le Mans, Sebring, the Targa Floria or the Mile Millia, this is Powerboat P1, a fresh dynamic lifestyle sport where talented racers demonstrate daring and great skill as they take on the might of the open seas in a series of closely-fought endurance races.
It was refreshing however, to see that amongst the glamour world of motor racing, some of the less fortunate had not been forgotten.

“You could only call this a perfect season” said Mark B. Wilson (team technical director) with a perfect finish record in every race, the only boat in the series that can boast this. This result is even more remarkable considering that we missed the first two races of the season and clinched the title with one race to spare. When you have the fastest boat, most reliable equipment and the most experienced team you can expect nothing less than the success we achieved this year. It was no surprise; everything we did this year was thought-out and calculated, before it was implemented”.

At the close of the 2007 season Team Fountain Worldwide finished the Portuguese Grand Prix with a 170 and a 210 championship point lead over second and third place teams, respectively. This is an amazing accomplishment for a team who, until the first race in Naples, had no prior experience together in their brand new boat.
For the Murry Foundation the Team Fountain success was all the more important as the team romped to victory with The Foundation’s crest emblazoned on the front of the boat. Given the teams late start to the season its seemed appropriate the The Foundation’s crest ‘Haud Vertu Haud Trado – No Retreat, No Surrender’ adorned the front of the boat.’

“Powerboat P1 World Champions, fantastic, I couldn’t ask for more. We must thank Fountain Powerboats for building us an extremely competitive race boat, our entire race crew and staff at Fountain Worldwide, as well as Ilmor Marine who built us some incredible engines that never missed a beat. Twin Disc also has a large hand in our success as their Arneson drives coupled with SCS drop boxes performed flawlessly all season long. Over 1000 miles of testing and racing with one oil change…now that’s value.  Overall, I am extremely proud of our success and of our involvement in P1 as it is a phenomenally professional organisation,” said Craig D. Wilson, President of Fountain Worldwide.

The Foundation has been fortunate enough to attract the support of world champion sportsman who find an affinity with the tireless work undertaken by The Foundation. This exposure will hopefully engrain the plight of the helpless into the minds of the general public.

Team Fountain have also entered into a carbon offset program to ease the effects of global warming that threaten our world. The Foundation would like to thank all involved for their support.
