Fund raising efforts bring joy to Orphans.

Children at St. Luke’s Primary School in Sway have continued their efforts to support The Holy Family Mission Orphanage in Gravellotte, South Africa.

Adam Murry, Founder of The Murry Foundation, has helped create a link between these two contrasting communities and plans are in place for the link to grow from strength to strength. Soon, the children will be able to communicate to each other via The New World Link.

Having already raised money last school term by holding a Summer Fete, to purchase computers for the Education centre, the children wanted to do more. A raffle was held to win a very large cuddly bear. Georgia Law and Kate Barry (Aged 10) organised a rota of ticket sellers and made sure they were on the playground every break and afternoon selling the tickets!  Benjamin  was the eventual winner and over £450 was raised.

“Its great that St Luke’s have got on board with this project and all the children have really got behind this. An online portal will soon be up and running where the children from St Luke’s can communicate online to the children they are supporting. I hope other schools will also get on board due to the success that Miss Good and the team at St Luke’s have achieved” Adam quotes.

Children also raised money at the end of the Summer Term, by selling their home grown vegetables. St. Luke’s has a very active gardening club and parents were eager to purchase the onions, beans and courgettes grown by the children.
Finally, to add to the money raised so far by the children, parents were invited to give to a collection after attending the Infant Nativity and Junior Carol Service, just before Christmas.

“I am delighted with the response of our school community. Everyone seems very keen to help the children we are getting to know. It is so pleasing to see that our children, who seem to have so much at this time of year, want to give something back, to bring joy to others” reported Miss Good, Deputy Headteacher. “They are full of ideas of how they can help, and are close to reaching the £1000 target they have set themselves.”
The money raised helped Adam Murry purchase Christmas gifts for every single child at the orphanage, and the other orphanages under The Murry Foundation across the world. The gifts were hand delivered by The Foundation’s Team in South Africa and Nepal.
